EuroMAB Formal Representation 
and Secretariat Support

This document clarifies the respective roles, and their durations, of the EuroMAB Chair and Vice-Chairs, the MAB Secretariat in Paris and the European Regional Office in Venice regarding EuroMAB formal representation and secretariat support.

EuroMAB Chair

Two-year term of office, formally beginning at the start of the biennial EuroMAB Conference.

  • To Chair the biennial EuroMAB Conference.
  • To formally represent EuroMAB and to deliver reports of EuroMAB activities at major meetings (e.g. Seville + 5) as appropriate.

EuroMAB Vice-Chair (Past Chair)

Two-year term of office, formally beginning at the start of the biennial EuroMAB Conference.

  • To discuss issues with, and offer advice to the EuroMAB Chair and Chair-Elect as appropriate.

EuroMAB Vice-Chair (Chair-Elect)

Two-year term of office, formally beginning at the close of the biennial EuroMAB Conference.

  • To organise the forthcoming biennial EuroMAB Conference.
  • To discuss issues with, and offer advice to the EuroMAB Chair and Past Chair as appropriate.

UNESCO MAB Secretariat/Paris

Ongoing.

To support EuroMAB activities in general, and in particular to liaise with UNESCO ROSTE/Venice and the EuroMAB Chair

  • To help identify suitable topics for thematic workshops and networking.
  • To provide the links between MAB and EuroMAB and MAB activities in other regions.
  • To help organise and identify funding for the biennial EuroMAB Conference.
  • To maintain a www-based database of EuroMAB National Committees and Biosphere Reserve Coordinators, and related BR information.

UNESCO ROSTE/Venice

Ongoing.

To support EuroMAB activities in general, and in particular to liaise with the MAB Secretariat and EuroMAB Chair, Vice-Chairs, National Committees and Biosphere Reserve Coordinators as appropriate so as

  • To help identify suitable topics for thematic workshops and networking activities and to assist with their planning, funding strategies, operation and reporting.
  • To circulate information to EuroMAB National Committees and Biosphere Reserve Coordinators as appropriate.
  • To help organise and identify funding for the biennial EuroMAB Conference.
